OpenID is rapidly evolving into the glue that binds us together electronically. At times, we may want OpenID to verify that there is a real person with valid credentials behind the OpenID.

The OpenID Provider Certification Federation (OPCFED), a not-for-profit 501(c)3 organization, uses the strength of established membership associations to credential OpenID accounts.  When you see the OPCFED Seal, you know you are dealing with a real person with real credentials.

OpenID providers that are certified by OPCFED must agree to abide by an established Code of Ethics that protects the privacy and identites of its OpenID account holders.

OpenID Provider Certification

OPCFED provides three levels of certification as follows:

Gold Certification

GOLD - this OpenID Provider has vetted each individual who creates an account through independent background checks of the member’s initial application and provides strong encryption login to the domain providing the OpenID account.

Silver Certification

SILVER - this OpenID Provider has received a verifiable payment from each member by check or credit card that matches the member’s name and address.
Green Certification GREEN - this OpenID Provider abides by the Code of Ethics established by OPCFED to protect the privacy and personal identity of each of its OpenID account holders.
